Keychron Q3

Earlier this year my old Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S mechanical keyboard started giving me problems. It uses a micro USB connector, and at least once a day it would turn off, requiring me to unplug and replug it back in. While doing some research for a good TKL replacement, I discovered that Keychron’s flagship TKL keyboard was about to be released, so I figured I’d wait for that. Keychron came to fame with wireless mechanical keyboards. I personally don’t see the point of a wireless keyboard. I leave my keyboard on my desk and don’t move it. Using a wireless keyboard means you have to worry about potential latency, charging it, and of course, added cost/complexity. Fortunately Keychron’s Q3 is their flagship USB-C wired TKL keyboard, so that’s what I wanted.

I got my keyboard a week ago and it is a beast. You have to pick it up to realize just how solid this thing is. It feels like the whole frame is made of tungsten. It weighs almost 5 pounds, which is more than double most mechanical TKL keyboards. I’d like to get a second one for the office, but it’s too expensive for that. Maybe if I ever end up going back to the office full time I’ll consider it.

If you’re looking for a mechanical TKL keyboard, this should be at the top of your list.
